1. In your opinion, what role does networking over drinks play in the business world, and how do you leverage it effectively?

Spencer: For me, having some cocktails at a business meeting and or business setting comes down to the type and level of business that I’m doing. Certain business environments don’t permit a cocktail when doing real business most times. However, I will only have a cocktail and a nice Davidoff cigar to celebrate a transactional relationship that is beneficial for both parties involved. The way I leverage it is simply based on the tone of the meeting and the individual or group of individuals that I’m dealing with.

2. As a seasoned entrepreneur and marketing guru, what inspired you to venture into the world of business and branding?

Spencer: People. I initially got into this space coming from the corporate music side of the entertainment business and looking at the climate navigating the corporate world, I told myself, “How can I continue to bring value not only for myself but to others?” This led me to start my own boutique marketing branding advertising consultant agency called DRI, which stands for Dreamers, Risk-Takers & Innovators. 3. In your opinion, what qualities or characteristics make for an ideal “CEO’s drink”? Is there a particular cocktail or spirit that you believe embodies the essence of executive leadership or success in business?

Spencer: No, I believe that it just comes down to personal preference. Some people like Honda Accords; some people like Rolls-Royce. It’s all about what you like, so in relation to your choice of beverage, some people like strong dirty martinis, others like vodka on the rocks. For me personally, I’m a tequila guy, and I know a lot of CEOs that don’t drink at all, and on the other hand, I know a lot of CEOs that do drink. Again, it’s personal preference.

4. What advice do you have for other CEOs and entrepreneurs when it comes to balancing work responsibilities with leisure activities?

Spencer: I think balance is important, definitely, but when it comes to business, you should have the ability to stay locked in and focused until your task is complete. As an entrepreneur, entrepreneurship is defined by results, relationships, and ROI. And leisure activities are way more enjoyable when those responsibilities are handled. So, my advice would be to stay the course no matter what’s going on in your life.

5. With a clientele ranging from Fortune companies to cultural icons, have you noticed any trends in the types of drinks preferred by high-profile clients during business meetings or gatherings? How do you adapt to accommodate different preferences?

Spencer: There’s no new trends (laughing out loud). Most people do like to drink, and for me, I like to keep things simple. Whether I’m dealing with a Fortune 500 brand or a well-known celebrity, most of the time their choice of beverage is pretty normal. It’s either vodka, whiskey, wine, or a cold beer. Once in a while, I’ll connect with people that enjoy a nice tequila like myself. Adaptability I believe is based on the character of the person. Some people are intimidated, and others are natural-born leaders.

6. With the rise of virtual meetings and remote work, how do you maintain a sense of camaraderie and rapport with colleagues or clients when you can’t share a drink together in person? Are there any virtual networking tips or rituals you’ve found effective?

Spencer: I really despise the virtual meeting space that we’re in currently because I really enjoy connecting face-to-face with people in an office setting, in a conference room, in a country club. When you have that one-on-one action directly, you can really hone in and get things done without people hiding behind a camera or Zoom link. So, I’m not a big fan of the virtual movement that is happening since Covid. I always recommend meeting clients and brands face-to-face, even if that involves traveling to different cities.

7. Finally, if you could share one memorable story or experience related to your favorite drink, what would it be?

Spencer: All I do is create experiences, especially drinking Fletcher Azul reposado tequila. What Aron Marquez and Mark Wahlberg have is something special. I really enjoy sipping the Fletcher with my friends and vibing out. Good conversation, great cigars, good people always create the best memories. So to my fellow dreamers and entrepreneurs, keep walking in your greatness on all levels. And make sure you tell your story authentically the way it should be. Thank you to CEO & Spirits for having be a part of such an exclusive community. Glad we had a chance to connect.
