- What inspired you to pursue a career in choreography and dance, and how did growing up in Long Beach influence your artistic journey?Lamar: Growing up in Long Beach, man, it was like the streets were our stage, you feel me? Every corner, every block had its own rhythm, its own vibe. I was just a kid soaking it all in, dancing to the beat of life. The energy of the city, the rawness of the streets, that’s what sparked my passion for dance. It was like breathing for me, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Long Beach, it’s in my blood, it’s in my moves, and it’s in everything I do.
- You’ve had an illustrious career in the music industry for over two decades. Can you share with us some of the highlights and challenges you’ve faced along the way?Lamar: Man, it’s been a rollercoaster ride, no doubt. From hustling on the streets of Long Beach to choreographing for some of the biggest names in the game, it’s been a journey. Highlights? Shoot, there’s been plenty. Creating iconic moments on stage, seeing my vision come to life, that’s what keeps me going. But don’t get it twisted, it ain’t always been smooth sailing. Challenges come at you left and right, but you gotta stay focused, stay hungry. That’s how you make it through.
- “Sittin’ Up in My Room” by Brandy is a classic music video featuring your choreography. Can you walk us through the creative process behind bringing that vision to life?Lamar: Ah, “Sittin’ Up in My Room,” that joint still gives me chills. The creative process? It was like painting a masterpiece, layer by layer. We vibed with Brandy, felt her energy, and just let the magic happen. It’s all about capturing the essence of the song, translating it into movement. We wanted to bring that feeling of longing, of yearning, to life on screen. And when you see it all come together, man, that’s when you know you’ve created something special.
- CEO & Spirits, celebrates the intersection of business success and personal indulgence. Could you share with us the significance of your favorite drink in your relaxation routine and how it complements your lifestyle as a seasoned industry professional, especially those moments shared with Ray J?Lamar: Ah, you know, after a long day of handling business and making moves, there’s nothing like kicking back with a smooth reposado. It’s like a ritual, a moment of tranquility in the chaos. And when you’re sippin’ on that smooth Casamigos Reposado, reminiscing about the good times and the wins, it hits differently, especially when you’re sharing that moment with someone you respect and vibe with, like my Boy Ray. It’s not just a drink; it’s a celebration of success, a toast to the grind.
- What advice would you give to aspiring dancers and choreographers looking to make a name for themselves in the competitive entertainment industry?Lamar: Listen up, young bloods, ’cause I’m about to drop some knowledge. In this industry, talent will only get you so far. You gotta have hustle, you gotta have heart. Stay true to yourself, find your own style, and don’t be afraid to take risks. It’s a crowded game out there, but ain’t nobody can do you like you do you. And remember, it’s not just about the moves, it’s about the story you tell with those moves. So keep grinding, keep shining, and most importantly, keep believing in yourself.
- Can you share any upcoming projects or collaborations that you’re particularly excited about?Lamar: Oh, you ain’t ready for the heat we’re about to drop! Got some crazy collaborations in the pipeline, with big names and fresh faces alike. But let me tell you, I’m especially hyped about this one project I’m cooking up with my son, Amir Tribble. The boy’s got talent for days, and we’re about to take the world by storm with our latest venture, Deja Vu Ave. It’s a vibe, it’s a movement, it’s something you ain’t never seen before. So mark your calendars, cause we’re about to shake things up in a big way.
- We’ve heard that you have a favorite drink that you enjoy after a productive day. Can you tell us a bit about that drink and why it holds a special place in your heart?Lamar: Ah, my favorite drink, it’s like a little piece of heaven in a glass, you feel me? Like I said before, Casamigos Reposado it’s more than just a drink, it’s a vibe, it’s a mood. And when you’re sippin’ on that golden elixir, sharing stories and laughs with someone you’ve shared success with, especially with someone I have history with like my brother Ray, man, it’s like magic. It’s a reminder of the journey we’ve been on, the highs and the lows, and it’s a toast to the future. That drink, it’s like a symbol of brotherhood, of respect, of living the dream together.
